Samsung Galaxy S6 vs. Apple iPhone 6S

Both the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the Apple iPhone 6S have ruled the smartphone world for the last year after they were introduced as the flagship phones of their manufacturers. Both devices came with a suite of new tools and features that set them apart. If you are thinking about upgrading and want to know how these two smartphones stack up against each other, the experts at CPR are here to help!

Features Unique to the Galaxy S6

The Galaxy S6 came out in April of 2015 with some of the most  advanced features and design Samsung had to offer. Its features include a variety of tools that make it one of the top phones on the market.

Quick and wireless charging

Like their many Android partners, the Galaxy S6 can be wirelessly charged. By placing the phone on the wireless charging dock, available at multiple retailers, the S6 will fully and quickly charge. In fact, the charging is so efficient, that Samsung introduced quick charge. When enabled, quick charge allows the user to charge the device for 10 minutes and get back almost 4 hours of usage.

Built-in heart-rate monitor

The flash on the S6 also acts as a heart-rate monitor and a tool to measure blood oxygen saturation. Recently some real world testing has shown that these types of monitors aren’t all that accurate, but it’s a nice feature to have.

Larger, high-resolution screen

The Galaxy S6 has a screen with a significantly higher resolution than the iPhone, 577 ppi vs 326 ppi for those of you keeping track. If users want the iPhone with the higher resolution screen, they will have to pay about $100 more for the iPhone 6 Plus.

Dedicated virtual reality accessory

The Samsung Gear VR headset and the Galaxy S6 go together to create a fully immersive video-watching and game-playing experience. While VR technology may be still in the near future, the S6 has you covered for those advancements as they come.

Features Unique to the iPhone 6S

The iPhone 6S was released in September of 2015 and was touted as Apple’s most advanced phone yet. With more features paired with all of the things Apple users loved about the previous models, the device caused a stir in the technology marketplace.

Streamlined sharing between devices

Like all other Apple devices, the iPhone 6S pairs seamlessly with other iPhones, Macs, and iPads. This makes it really easy to share content across devices. Additionally, Handoff allows users to answer calls from their iPhone on their Mac. This cross-device communication comes especially in handy since so many people typically own multiple devices for work, school, and/or play.

New apps

iOS, Apple’s operating system, usually gets the newest apps first because it’s significantly easier to develop an app for a variety of phone models that all run iOS as opposed to thousands of phone models all running different versions of Android.

Also, Apple’s App Store has stricter publishing requirements than Google Play which means fewer spam apps and less malware.

Multiple different compatible cases and accessories

Due to Apple’s saturation of the marketplace, there are substantially more cases and accessories to choose from. Manufacturers are quick to make new products for the Apple phones because so many people have them. This gives Apple users a much wider selection to choose from when it comes to phone cases, speakers and more.

What Both the iPhone 6S and the Galaxy S6 Have

While both the Galaxy S6 and the iPhone 6S have great features unique only to them, some of the “must-have” tools and features are the same for both devices.

Fingerprint scanners

Both devices have fingerprint scanners for increased security protecting your digital life. These not only give users more security, but also allow for the authorization of payments with just a tap of a finger. Additionally, both phones can program several fingerprints into their memory and the experience of using the scanner is similar.

Mobile payments

Both Apple Pay and Samsung Pay have NFC-based mobile payment systems with significant security infrastructure for peace of mind. While Apple Pay has had a more aggressive 2016 roll out, Samsung Pay has quickly caught up. Now you can use both payment systems almost anywhere you can swipe or tap a credit or debit card.

Premium materials and designs

Both devices are built with top of the line materials. Both phones have screens made of Gorilla Glass 4 front panels designed to resist breaking and scratches and the Samsung Galaxy S6 has a metal body while Apple’s iPhone6S has an aluminum body.

Fixed storage and non-removable battery

Both the iPhone 6S and the Galaxy S6 have fixed storage options which means when the storage limit is reached, apps and content must be deleted. Extra storage cannot be added via SD card. The iPhone has models with 16GB, 64GB, or 128Gb options and the Galaxy has 32GB, 64GB or 128GB options.

Also keep in mind that the battery on both devices cannot be removed. So when the battery runs out, the phone must be charged, the battery can’t be swapped out for a new one.

Samsung Galaxy S6 vs iPhone 6S: The Choice is Yours

Both the Galaxy S6 and the iPhone 6S have a suite of features and more to make any smartphone user happy. It all comes down to how much personalization that’s wanted.

The Galaxy S6 runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop, and as with most Android operating systems, users are given the opportunity to fully customize everything from their home screen layout to a complete overhaul of software design.

The iPhone 6S comes installed with iOS 8, but will immediately push the upgrade to iOS 10 when powered on out of the box. iOS runs a simpler and cleaner design that is considered by some to be more user-friendly. Additionally, Apple makes all their software updates available to any user with a compatible device making it easy to upgrade after each new iOS launch. With Android, the upgrade may be delayed or not released at all.
