Pro Gaming: The Athletic Career of the New Generation

When you hear that a Chicago University student received a $15,000 athletic scholarship, you might immediately think he’s a football or basketball prodigy. However, 20-year-old Youngbin Chung is a pro gaming athlete who participates in e-sports. The university spent money recruiting him and 34 other pro gaming athletes. The university had hopes that it would enrich student life, add diversity, and produce a larger outcome of high-ranking graduates.

A Pro Gaming Career

Ten hours per day spent playing a virtual game may seem excessive, but it’s necessary for those who pursue a pro gaming career. Chung is not alone; in fact, he leads a team of gamers who don headsets and enter into strategic combat online. His team is just one of the thousands in the world who participate in pro gaming tournaments and online communities. Approximately 27 million people play League of Legends, a popular game, each day.

Tournaments are comprised of hundreds of serious e-sports megastars in packed arena-type stadiums. Over 15,000 spectators and 32 million fans at home watch the action on giant screens and vehemently root for teams. The top ten pro gaming athletes in the country together made over $8 million last year. Some earnings from tournaments and other additional income from broadcasting gameplay on websites like Twitch.

Pro gaming requires concentration, hyperactive calculation, precision hand-eye coordination, timing, and communication. The difference between victory and defeat can occur within seconds. And the leap from amateur to pro gaming can (and often does) occur before a player even reaches high school.

Of course, pro gaming wouldn’t be possible without its fair share of high-end technological equipment. From the best gaming laptops to dazzling gaming paraphernalia, it’s not uncommon for a pro gaming athlete to put most of his or her winnings back into the game and system itself. But even the best cared for computer and accessories can break, degrade, or encounter mishaps over time. When that happens, pro gamers need fast and affordable repair and replacement services; there’s no better place than Cell Phone Repair, where the experts know just what it means to be a gamer.

Could you have what it takes to be successful in the world of pro gaming? Whether you play Defense of the Ancients, League of Legends, World of Warcraft, or even a less competitive game like Minecraft, you should have the best gear to actually enjoy the experience (and play at your best). So when your system needs repair, bring it into CPR, and you could be back to your base of operations and jacked in again the very same day!
