Apple’s New MacBook Features and Specs
At their annual keynote event this March, Apple announced their highlights for 2015, which include a release date for the Apple Watch, a price reduction for the Apple TV, and a brand new MacBook. Every year, the company prides itself on innovation and reinventing their products by making them more efficient and consumer friendly. But what’s all the buzz about? Let’s take a look at the features of Apple’s new MacBook.
Remarkably Compact
With an all-metal enclosure, the new MacBook is .52 inches thin and only weighs two pounds. This trumps Apple’s previous model, the MacBook Air, which measured in at .68 inches thin and 2.38 pounds.
12” Retina Display
Packing in over 3.3 million pixels into a 2304×1440 high-resolution screen, the retina display on this new MacBook will have you watching videos and photo editing with crystal clear vision. Also, it consumes 30% less energy than previous models.
All-New Keyboard
Although this may seem unnecessary, the inner-geek in everyone loves new technology. The new MacBook is equipped with an all-new keyboard. Apple’s new design allows for a more crisp and responsive feel. Blogging about your pets has never been this great.
Force Touch Trackpad
For many people, the trackpad of a laptop often leaves much to be desired. In the new MacBook, Apple has changed things up with a new glass, multi-touch surface. The trackpad includes four force sensors which detects not only movement and clicks but also how much pressure you apply to the pad. This comes in handy, as you can assign tasks and shortcuts with a deeper press, or “force click.”
The trackpad no longer clicks like a button. Instead, the new MacBook is equipped with a Taptic Engine. The Taptic Engine in the trackpad provides physical feedback to click gestures. This means that pressing the trackpad feels like a button click, even though the trackpad is not actually clicking down.
Improved Battery Life
If there’s anything we all need, it’s more battery life. Because the new MacBook is so efficient, along with 35% more battery within the machine, the battery life is better than all previous models.
One Single USB-C Port
This has been a hot topic of debate since the announcement. The new MacBook is equipped with one single USB-C port. This port is used for all of your charging, data transfer, and device hook-up. It’s faster than any previous USB generation and is supposed to be the most versatile port to date.
Under the Hood
The new MacBook is powered by an Intel Core M 1.3GHz processor, with Turbo Boosts up to 2.9GHz. The design of the interior, with a solid state hard drive, and a 66% smaller logic board than the MacBook Air, allows this model to run in silence with no fan. It’s also completely ready for the wireless world, as it’s equipped with 802.11ac and Bluetooth 4.0.
Apple has a reputation of adapting their products to be more sleek and innovative. The changes regarding previous products have been the cause of debate between Apple and PC fans in the past. The new MacBook is no exception. We’re curious to hear your opinions on the new design and features.
